Lionel Messi wrote a message to the people of Miami thanking them for “incredible moments together” in a post on his Instagram account. The Argentine captained the side as they won Leagues Cup, got to the final of US Open Cup and almost made the MLS 2023 playoffs, with Messi shooting to the top of the statistics charts in most areas of the game.
The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner was unable to feature in the majority of Inter Miami’s games towards the end of the campaign as injury struck the player while on international duty. During this time, The Herons suffered a dip in form and ultimately their playoff hopes fizzled out with a Decision Day defeat to Charlotte FC.

Messi’s message to Miami
A day after the fate of the MLS was sealed, Messi took to social media to make his thoughts and feelings on the season heard. “I’m proud of everything that this team has achieved this season”, he wrote. “With hard work and effort from everyone, we were able to win Leagues Cup 2023, getting the first ever title in Inter Miami’s history, we got to the final of Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and we were even fighting for the MLS playoffs practically until the last minute”, said the message to the fans.
